ASC Training Center, one of the few combined Alpine, Nordic, Biathlon and Snowboard training centers in the country, is sponsoring two upcoming running events guaranteed to be fun for the whole family and competitive runners alike.

The inaugural “Run the Runway” event at Truckee Tahoe Airport takes place on October 8 and features a 5k and .75 mile run right on the airport’s 11-29 runway! The runway will be closed to air traffic during this unique event and runners will enjoy a fast, flat surface at an elevation 5,900 feet, surrounded by the beauty of Martis Valley. The first 200 people to register will receive a souvenir water cup. This event is a fundraiser for ASC Training Center, and also for Trails & Vistas and TEMPO.

The 40^th annual Donner Lake Turkey Trot, a fundraiser for ASC Training Center’s Junior Nordic Team, returns on November 5^th.  This popular race began in 1976 with a small group of enthusiastic runners who wanted to make room for all the turkey and pies they’d be eating around Thanksgiving. In addition to the highly competitive 7.2 mile run around Donner Lake, the event also includes the “Mashed Potato Mile,” a fun run/walk for those seeking a less competitive atmosphere. The Turkey Trot attracts a field of about 200 runners annually from Reno, Sacramento, the Bay Area and beyond, as well as many locals who enjoy supporting a good cause and getting out for some morning exercise.

The Turkey Trot is held rain or shine and the event has taken place in all sorts of weather throughout the years, from blizzards and freezing rain to warm and sunny autumn days. Part of the fun is never knowing what sort of weather will be in store for participants on race day!

In addition to hosting Run the Runway and the Turkey Trot, ASC Training Center is preparing for the opening of registration for their complete line-up of winter programs. From cross country skiing classes for children as young as four, and Alpine racing training for kids from grade school through High School, to advanced Snowboard travel teams and elite Nordic racing and Biathlon offerings, ASC Training Center offers a full roster of multi-disciplinary activities for every age and ability. New this year will be online program registration, providing participants with a seamless way to sign-up and coaches and staff to provide an enhanced level of service and support to all athletes, teams and parents.
